\to{The First American Title Company\cr
Att. Ms. Ellen Hole\cr
Post Office Box 298\cr
Walnut Creek, Ca. 94596\cr}
{\noindent Dear Ms. Hole:}
This letter is in regard to my title to Dwelling 2C in building 2601
as defined in the deed from the Terra California Corporation dated July 28,1972.
The facts are as follows:
1. The property was put in my name only, on the advice of council and with
the approval of The Title Insurance and Trust Company,
because the funds used for its purchase
came from the sale of property held in my name only in Connecticut (not a
community property state). The person who drew the deed felt that my
married status should be recognized and so the phrase ``a married man''
was added after my name. The property was purchased with cash and it has never
been mortgaged or otherwise encumbered.
2. My wife, Bernice Deborah Samuel (nee Crawford), died on May 24th 1982,
as attested by the enclosed death certificate. I have not remarried.
3. In settling my wife's estate, this property was not judged to be
community property and it was specifically not included, both in the list
prepared by The State Income Tax Referee and in the Community Property
Order dated August 26, 1982 and signed by Judge V. Gene McDonald of the
Superior Court of California. Copies of these two documents are enclosed.
4. The community-property issue is moot, in any case, since I am my wife's
sole heir.
I trust that this letter will answer the questions that you have raised.

{\noindent Gentlemen:}
This is a letter of recommendation for Mr. Pijush Kanti Ghosh who is
applying for admission the Department of Computer Science. I am writing
directly because I believe that such letters should be confidential and
because Mr. Ghosh chose not to waive his right to inspect the contents of
my recommendation if filed on your usual form. If you cannot accept this
letter on the basis of confidentiallity, please distroy it.
Mr Ghosh and I have become acquainted only through his work in applying the
\META\ to Indian typography and as a consequence I am none too qell qualified
to comment on his general qualifications for graduate work. He

\to {Mrs. Donna Hussain\cr
2913 Karen Drive\cr
Las Cruces, N.M. 88001\cr}
{\noindent Dear Donna:}
This letter is to be mainly about financial matters. I am sending it of now
to give you time to call me if you have any questions.
I am afraid that handling my affairs while I am away will be a bit of a
chore. In the first place, there will be approximately 30 checks
arriving during this period. I have made an attempt to list these
together with the approximate amounts on the enclosed sheet. These, of
course, are to be deposited in the account for which you are authorized.
Just endorse then ``To the Bank of America
Stanford Branch, for deposit to the account of Arthur L. Samuel''.
A few bills will be arriving that will have to be paid, so I am enclosing
some check blanks for the ALS and DEH account. Since a check with your
signature might be questioned by the recipient (but not by the bank), you
might add a note as to what the check is in payment for in the lower left
hand corner of the check.
There is a Visa charge that is long over due but which may still arrive
before I leave and then I may be using the Visa card while on the trip,
although most of this usage will come near the end of the trip and
probably not show up until I am back. I thing that I will simply leave
the phone on rather than go to all the trouble of having service
suspended, so there will be two phone bills. I will leave checks made out
in advance at The Sequoias so you will not have to bother with this.
There will be a couple of Faculty club bills, but that is just about all.
A few checks may still be made out to Bernice or jointly to Bernice and to
me. These checks will have to be deposited in our old joint account which
I have kept open just for this purpose, so I am enclosing some deposit
slips for this account. Just endorse such checks ``To the Bank of America
for deposit to the account of Bernice D. Samuel and Arthur L. Samuel''.
Send Xerox copies to me of anything that you think should come to my
attention. The chances of things going astray are too great to trust
sending originals. I am going to try to get my income tax in shape while
on the ship so do send copies of related documents but there should be
very little else to worry about. Much of my mail comes to the office in
any case.
That's about all, but we will probably talk by phone before I leave.
